Portugal elevated to 3rd in the world

The Expat Insider survey elevates Portugal to 3rd best country to live in!

Results published on 1st October 2019

The number of ex-pats living in Portugal is growing every year and the Ex-pat insider survey has elevated Portugal to 3rd best place to live in the world!

The Expat Insider 2019 survey was conducted by InterNations - the largest global network for expatriates, who took a cross-section of workers, retirees and other sections to gather their findings.

Portugal has spent the past two years in the top 10 of ex-pats’ preferred countries; however, the findings in 2019 now mean that this beautiful country joins Taiwan and Vietnam in the top 3 best places for ex-pats to reside. With close to nine in ten (87%) describing the local attitude towards foreign residents as friendly, with an impressive 83% agreeing that it is really easy to settle down in Portugal.

Portugal also ranks in the top 10 for Leisure Options (2nd), Personal Happiness (2nd), Health & Well-Being (7th), and Safety & Security (8th)

Results for travel and transportation (16th) and digital life (16th) are not as good, but still, more than acceptable. So as you can see it's not all about sun, sea and sand.

Property prices, although increasing, are still way below what you would expect to pay elsewhere in parts of Europe and the new government financial incentives for overseas investors will only strengthen the real estate sectors in the future.

There are obviously pros and cons to living in Portugal, Madeira or the Azores and we recommend that you take expert legal advice from our Partners VIV Europe before you make the move.
