And to complement this, the installation of an accommodation unit, Casa da Cumeada, which promotes healthy eating within the concept of macrobiotics, shows the ability to balance the traditional life of a village and the innovative elements that emerge and take root.
Dark Sky® Alqueva is an astrotourism destination certified as a Starlight Tourism Destination since 2011 and with dozens of international awards, especially since 2019, which promotes an integrated model of sustainable development. This model applies a short, medium and long-term vision, which since its creation I have been improving based on experience, obstacles and social changes that alter ways of seeing, feeling and living, not only ours but also those of visitors and residents.
It was the understanding of the Dark Sky® Alqueva team that this development model and that translates into the way the destination itself develops throughout its territory, including the Village of Cumeada, would be a reason for differentiation compared to another way of developing and seeing the villages and therefore strong enough to be a candidate for a UNWTO seal.
