The legend of Tortosendo
According to local legend, long ago existed in Tortosendo a small house where lived a very good family, united, but of humble resources. Every day the mother cleaned, baked and took care of the pot, the father left early to go dig the land, the children kept the sheep in the pasture, and a daughter, sick and crippled, sad and alone, stayed at home leaning against an old olive tree. One day, this girl saw, dazzled, sitting in one of the lower branches of the olive tree a very beautiful and beautiful and radiant lady who, smiling, extended an unknown object to her and said:
"My daughter, stop with your sadness and take this rock with which you will spend your days spinning. Although sick and crooked, being a friend of helping your parents, you will thus contribute to the well-being of your family and with your example, which will spread, to the progress of your land!"
It would have come from this event the name of "Tortasendo" that would later give "Tortosendo", with its development of the spinning and textile industry and its devotion to Our Lady of Oliveira.
