Campo Maior é uma vila portuguesa pertencente ao distrito de Portalegre, no Alentejo.
Esta vila, a 16 quilómetros a nordeste de Elvas, é um centro de produção de café dominado por um imponente castelo medieval que sofreu uma longa e intensa história militar devido à sua localização na fronteira entre Espanha e Portugal.

No coração da cidade você pode ver a Igreja de São João Baptista (1747), com uma capela anexa que abriga o Museu de Arte Sacra, a Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Espectação (séculos 17 e 18), que tem a inquietante Capela dos Ossos anexo. A capela é totalmente revestida pelos ossos daqueles que morreram na explosão de um depósito de pólvora local.
Rua Canadá é um excelente lugar para ver a arquitetura civil, uma vez que possui excelentes exemplos dos séculos 17 e 19.

Outros pontos interessantes da cidade são a Praça da República, com o seu pelourinho de 1740, e os Paços do Concelho.

Um bom momento para visitar Campo Maior é em setembro, quando a cidade realiza a Festa das Flores.

A 8 quilômetros de Campo Maior, em Ouguela, existe um interessante Museu do Café, com secções técnicas, bibliográficas, agrícolas e de produção.

Campo Maior is a Portuguese village belonging to the district of Portalegre, in Alentejo.
This village, 16 kilometers northeast of Elvas, is a center of coffee production dominated by an imposing medieval castle that has undergone a long and intense military history due to its location on the border between Spain and Portugal.

In the heart of the city you can see the Church of São João Baptista (1747), with an attached chapel that houses the Museum of Sacred Art, the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Espetação (17th and 18th centuries), which has the disturbing Chapel of Annex bones. The chapel is completely lined with the bones of those who died in the explosion of a local powder warehouse.
Canada Street is an excellent place to see civil architecture, as it has excellent examples from the 17th and 19th centuries.

Other interesting points in the city are Praça da República, with its pillory from 1740, and the Town Hall.

A good time to visit Campo Maior is in September, when the city holds the Flower Festival.

8 kilometers from Campo Maior, in Ouguela, there is an interesting Coffee Museum, with technical, bibliographical, agricultural and production sections.
