TOMAR ATTRACTIONS
Tomar, the Templar city that developed around its Castle, was ordered to be built in 1160 by D. Gualdim Pais, Grand Master of the Order of the Temple, which would later become the headquarters of the monk-knights in Portugal. Tomar combines unforgettable beauty with a historic presence, full of symbolism and mysticism.
The magnificent gardens, such as Parque do Mouchão and Mata dos Sete Montes, are places you will want to explore, as is the Castelo de Bode Reservoir, a mirror-like body of water surrounded by pine forests with small islets that offer stunning landscapes.
The Convent of Christ, a monument dating from the 12th century, was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1983.
Every four years, in July, the Festa dos Tabuleiros (Festival of the Trays) takes place, with origins in the Holy Spirit Cult, established in the 14th century, reminiscent of ancient harvest festivals. During the festival, women parade with trays loaded with bread and flowers on their heads.
The city is entirely decorated with flowers, making it a national and international attraction of high relevance, drawing thousands of visitors from all over the world.
The vibrant colors of the flowers and the joyful atmosphere blend into a lively and unique setting.
