Câmara de Lobos, located on the south coast of the island of Madeira, was the first town inhabited by João Gonçalves Zarco, the navigator who discovered this "pearl of the Atlantic". Having remained there between 1420 and 1424, this was the first village created in Madeira, elevated to parish in 1430. His historical legacy is, therefore, very relevant.

The name of this municipality comes from the fact that, at the time of the discovery of the island, there was a large number of fur seals in the cove that can still be found here today with the same configuration. In this region, several monuments remain that refer to this historical period, from the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, founded in the fifteenth century, to the old convent of São Bernardino, from 1425, passing through the church of São Sebastião, built in the sixteenth century.

After just over seventy years, Madeira's landscape has changed significantly, but the picturesque charm of this small cove has remained practically unchanged.
